Kathleen B. McDonough

My name is Kathleen McDonough, and I am a junior at Keene State. I am from Stamford, Connecticut. I am a history and secondary education major, and I previously took Warder’s Civil War class before taking his seminar. I love traveling, watching movies or shows such as Greys Anatomy or Criminal Minds which I just started watching. I love sports, I am thirty minutes away from New York, so I am a huge New York sports fan, so are the Jets, the Yankees, and the Rangers. I spend most of my time hanging out with my friends/ roommates or with my family. I also am a workaholic, so I always have a job, for example during school time I work in the Office of Continuing Education and during the summers I work at a country club and babysit for two families. After school is over, I have two plans; one is to get a job back in CT, somewhere near my house and then the other option is to do Teacher of America, which is where you sign a contract for two years and get sent to a low-income area somewhere in the United States. I have wanted to do that since I was 15 years old, and I love travelling so that would be an awesome opportunity to see unfamiliar places with that job.

My research will focus on the Underground Railroad and within that look at the participants in it, how it worked, and where stations would be. One key point that will be discussed in my research will be Harriet Tubman as she was one of the most famous Underground Railroad Conductors. Also looking at the consequences of being caught and what happened to the slaves that successfully made it to freedom.
