I propose to research and study the effects the Civil War had on women and the home front. That is to say, I propose researching and studying what effect the absence of men, due to their role in waging war, during the Civil War had on women in terms of redefining gender roles and redesigning women’s sphere of influence in reference to the predominant “Cult of Domesticity” that preceded the Civil War era.
