Hello, my name is Paul Beling, and I’m a senior at Keene State College. I’m an Elementary Education and History major.

For my research project in my History seminar, I will be analyzing Civil War memory in the state of Kentucky, in contrast to public attitudes during the Civil War in Kentucky. From what I have discovered in my research, Kentucky has a strong Confederate memory in the post-Civil War era. Interestingly enough, Kentuckian men fought for the Union in comparison to the Confederacy at a ratio of roughly four to one. The focus of my research will be to discover what factors in post-Civil War Kentucky contributed to a more influential Confederate memory.
