My name is Taylor Montgomery. I’m from Weare, New Hampshire and a senior at Keene State College. My major is Secondary Education and History with a specialization in American History.
My research will focus on the African American women whose participation and choices influenced the fight for freedom before and during the Civil War. More specifically, the women represented in the research will be those who found a source of agency within slavery. Women such as Harriet Tubman, Margaret Garner, Sojourner Truth, and “Old Elizabeth” served as inspirational figures to women of color and will serve as the case studies for this paper.
